Another two 256MB DIMMs installed, and the MP3 drive and CD-ROM are now accessible. Yet to attempt the video card, but that can wait. KDE runs a lot better in 640 meg, you know. Mozilla, fat-arsed bastard that it is, loads thirty-odd tabs without thrashing. I'm almost missing the sound of the hard drive swapping its little brain out while my screen seizes for two seconds every time I click something.

Give your computer the gift of memory. As much as it can fit. You will both be much happier.

Plugged the wheelmouse back in, but I like the trackball a lot more. Just wish it had a third button. And/or a wheel.

Off sick again today, probably off sick tomorrow. This sucks.

I know what you mean... I'm just getting over a nasty chest infection myself. I was in a feverish nightmare on sunday. I think it was brought on by worry about my interview etc =(

Give your computer the gift of memory.

dmesg | grep MEM
1024MB LOWMEM available.

Amen to that, brother.

Have you tried something like this (http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=zcpd&id=1990407241)? I really like them for everything except Quake3

wimps.

$ dmesg | grep -i MEM
real mem = 66695168 (65132K)
avail mem = 56590336 (55264K)
using 839 buffers containing 3436544 bytes (3356K) of memory

That's on the *server*.

For my next trick, I will write an LJ client in NewtonScript!

Well, the trackball was bought for me to use, as my hand hurts using a normal mouse after a while, but the pc I was using in Hendon has an old mouse socket and so not only needed an adaptor for that to serial, but then serial to usb, of which we had both, but then windows98 would not recognise it!

I've yet to get around to doing what i've been intending to do to the p/pro pc sitting switched off here atm. another helping of memory would do it some good probably, tho it can only take a max of 512mb of EDO ECC DIMMs, which are often a bugger to find!

Still got the virus? damn it, are you gonna blame me for that? ;) I saw my gp and she told me to be more vigilent with inhalers and make an emergency appt. if I get worse (ie coughing up more phlem than usual)

yeh, I've heard good things regards Crucial prices. They sell the stuff I need for the P/Pro system, but it's about £60 for 256mb!

*makes notes*

Mmm... I want to give my computer the gift of memory, but I have to sell my flatmate into white slavery first.
