Australian '80s indie rock lyrics, now.
Jan. 21st, 2003 11:07 pmAnd related. If you are Engrish, you should probably give up now. Google probably won't help with these. I just wish I had my records here so I could check the half-remembered words I really wanted to put in.
- "It is neither fair nor reasonable to expect sadness to confine itself to its causes. Like a river in flood, when it subsides and the drowned bodies of animals have been deposited in the treetops, there is another kind of damage that takes place beyond the torrent."
- "I'm not an elephant/Or a kangaroo"
- "For sixteen years you've been hanging around/Trying to bury me in a hole in the ground"
- "You've gotta make up your mind/She's grooving everything you see"
- "My heart rips open 'cause you're my all/Staring at my blank white wall/The old clock is getting heavy-handed/Waiting for a plane that never landed"
- "Drifters and dreamers in the pit of my heart/Dragging me deep down to their warning"
- "Don't give me back that/It was a corner way back/I saw it/You took it/It turned"
- "I stand by the fire/I stand by the fire/While a solid gold guitar swings a heart throb of carnal desire"
- "Just because I watch Dinah Shore/Doesn't mean I need a facelift"
- "My house is a mess. My head is a mess. My bedroom is disgusting, my mind is obscene."
Some of those are tricky, some you will kick yourself for missing. Oh, and there's no Birthday Party.
Essential purchase: Various Artists - Do The Pop!
Update: 8. might be "solo guitar" rather than "solid gold guitar" - the perils of not having the damn records. (Though that one is presently available, at least on a compilation, and I REALLY SHOULD get it forthwith ...)

Date: 2003-01-22 11:52 pm (UTC)But yes, I am a huge geek for that band.
If I can ever managed to dig up my review of a gig they played in chicago, I will send it your way.
I cried. Thru the whole show. I am such a dork.

Australian '80s indie rock lyrics, now.
Date: 2003-01-22 03:30 pm (UTC)3. Woot! One of the best oz songs EVER. No collection should be without it.
4. Ditto. But you *know* how I feel about this band and that album. :)
6. Wonderful, of course. But that was the '90s already by then! (well, *I* was hearing it, at gigs, a couple of years before it came out, but you wouldn't have been seeing as I recall it having been 10 years between gigs for you when you came along to see them at the Corner with me in '96. *evil grin*)
9. James Baker played drums on it but I can't remember its name.
Heh. Did better than on your previous one, at least. :)
barbara.
