Just back from B-Movie. A TRAGEDY OCCURED - the camera gave a 'COMPACT FLASH ERROR'. Nooo!

[livejournal.com profile] marnameow has multiple CF readers, so we will see about recoverability. (It's FAT16 and every file is a JPEG, so if all else fails we can read the whole thing in as binary and look for headers.) But if I've lost all the wonderful shots from this evening, PLEASE FORGIVE ME!

[livejournal.com profile] cyberneph and [livejournal.com profile] damerell crashing. Just call us the Home for Stray B-Movie Waifs. It was, of course, a fantastic night as usual, and we had the Best Time Ever. More detail when I am coherent.

Nooo! You can't have lost those pictures, if you have I'll be forced to rely on my memory!

Backup CF readers are a good idea

I had this happen a few months ago; I tried to offload photos using the CF->PCMCIA sleeve that I usually use, and got Really Weird Errors. It turned out that a couple of pins in the PCMCIA connector in my laptop were bent, so I couldn't read the CF card properly. Disassembling my laptop (thank you, Sony, for making it a utter pain to disassemble a Vaio laptop) and straightening the pins and fixing them with some superglue has fixed the problem.

So in summary, check the connectors of everything very carefully.

Most people don't arbitrarily disassemble their laptops themselves when they have problems...

Have you ever tried to take a TiBook apart? Huge pain in the ass, plus you mess up the bottom cover while doing it, even if you're really really careful.
