You can tell I haven't got a computer at home, can't you.

Thursday: Drinks at the Marlborough Head for a bunch of skanky mailing-list g*ths. Amanda from Australia came visiting and charmed the goths. Nice to see [livejournal.com profile] sushidog in London again. Must take her to dinner before the end of this month ...

Friday: Reasons to live on the Northern Line include helping it seem a reasonable idea to stop at the Dev for a drink on the way home. Met up with Ali and Alli at the pub (Alli working her last weekend before returning to Australia), then took them both to dinner at Ask. And damn fine it was.

Saturday: Hendon is a heavily Jewish suburb, and my house is no exception. So the two Jewish housemates had a nice lunch for Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year), bringing several of the family along. The non-Jewish housemates just ate and quietly boggled at the Jewish family interaction. Then to an evening at Slimes with Ali and her friend Jess. Where I spent far too much money, but did take the plunge and finally pay for my membership. W00t!

I'm sure the downstairs floor at Slimes was much louder than normal. We couldn't hear each other on the dancefloor even screaming, and my ears were ringing all Sunday.

A word on the DVD room. Specifically, Deep Blue Sea. A horror thriller about superintelligent sharks. Even in my condition - drunk and caffeinated to oblivion - this movie managed to insult my remaining intelligence. The plot only works if you assume every character is a complete idiot who deeply deserves to die horribly just for their stupidity. (And they mostly do.) Every line is pronounced like a cliché that the speaker has misremembered. You can go, "that actor is playing Bruce Willis! That actor is playing Samuel L. Jackson! ... Oh, sorry, that is Samuel L. Jackson ..."A relentless tour de force of dumbarse of such power as to obliterate any foolish notions of mere camp value. It sobered me up, dammit. I will never forgive it.

Ali says she saw one woman sitting at the back of the DVD room, legs apart, masturbating furiously. To Deep Blue Sea. She'd left by the time we got back there, thankfully. Dodgy shark effects, eh? Eh?

Sunday: And a quiet recovery day in. A bit of local window shopping, and first customer of the day at a dubious local Indian restaurant. (Did they have beef or lamb? No, they had "meat". Named meat is presumably extra.) Talking to housemates. Reading books. Sleep. An interesting and fulfilling day without Internet access? That's just not right.

Named meat does indeed cost more than generic meat in a curry. Though traditionally, iirc, meat refers to lamb when it comes to curries (you can derive this from the list of named other meats on the menu)
