The camera shop just called. Canon are refusing the warranty repair, claiming liquid damage (I really don't know how) and that it's beyond economical repair.

The camera shop is not quite sure what to do about this. I stated quite clearly that an ending with me being £200 down and cameraless would be completely unacceptable, and that I would fight as long as was necessary; and that the only acceptable endings would be a working camera or my money back, from either company.

(The Distance Selling laws are pretty damn nice from my point of view. I realise it wouldn't be terribly nice for the camera company, but I'm not able to be so very generous this month.)

The shop is sending me a copy of the report Canon sent them. At that point I will consider my options. Currently I'm thinking in terms of a combination of the grinding force of relentless paperwork and the Publicity of Mass Destruction.

So. Been there?

Ick! I've dealt with Canon before (my brand new SLR had a problem before I even put the first film in). They're total and utter bastards and in combination with the camera shop managed to make a minor repair (shutter lock) take a good month or so. The shop wouldn't just give me a new one because it was an insurance replacement from a house break in.
