  • Plant bukkake index.

  • I want you to picture the likely outcome of technophobe users doing the wacky shit Microsoft expects them to do to get their apps to work under SP2. Now imagine said users getting something like said directions in email. Microsoft has actually found a way to use a firewall to make the 0wnz0r3d box problem worse.

Bored stupider. [livejournal.com profile] arkady and I went to the Dev last night for a most refreshing pint. They were running an EBM music video night. The state of indushtral music video has advanced not a jot since Doublevision Presents. Nice to see that many decorative people in on a Monday, though.

I've done the intrusive questions about your s*x lives. Now I want you to describe your favourite drug, in loving detail. I shall wax poetic about a goth pub, a good pint of real beer and Gudang Garams. We'll get to you and rock'n'roll later.

This tells me that in the heart of cereal farming in the UK the pollen count is high in summer.
Wow. I never would have guessed that.

Drugs? Well due to my health I can only drink a little before I start feeling ill. I've also given up the occasional cigarette for the same reason. Illicit drugs are out with my family's history of mental illness, and I have no desire to abuse prescription drugs! Sugar plays merry hell with me, sex and rock and roll are beyond me when I am ill, so that leaves COFFEE!!

Caffeine, I imagine. But what I really want is a pair of monochrome-vision spectacles.

Hey, I'll do the poetic waxing about Gudangs Garams, if that's ok with you?!?

Well, I will when I manage to turn my brain on again. Could be a while...

Favourite?

Hallucinogens. Acid, preferably. Mushrooms, possibly. Not E, please, it turns you into a gibbering moron.

(Speed has much the same effect. Think Ben Elton (motormouth UK alternative comedian, at least until he went insane and started collaborating with Lloyd-Webber). That's me, after amphetamine sulphate. It isn't pretty.)

I think that, of the times I took acid (long past, alas, on account of being responsible and grown-up, no really...), one of the most amazing experiences of my life was Kew Gardens; on the first sub-zero day in autumn 1993 (something like October 30th, IIRC). As people may not know, what acid does is turn your brain and every sense up to 11; and then screws around with all of the usual causal connections.

As a result, every sensation is a brand new thing; and every thought is freshly minted. This doesn't stop them being utter gibberish, of course; as you're well aware. For some reason, my internal commentator (you know, the one who tells you exactly how stupidly you've just been behaving) turned into Dennis Norden. This was mildly amusing.

What was *really* amusing (and we're talking verging on hysteria here) were the seagulls on the lake in Kew. The lake had frozen overnight; and all these seagulls were incredibly nonplussed by their lake suddenly behaving really oddly. The old ones just sat down and made the best of a bad job, but the immature gulls really couldn't figure it out. It was where water should be, but it was solid. They stood up, tried to walk around, and generally fell over in a heap. Best of all was when one came into land on the lake. The undercarriage folded up, the gull hit the deck - and slid for about 10 foot, flapping frantically.

Consider also the effects of going from the outside (just above zero, not very humid) into the Palm House (tropical and very humid). The effect was, to put it frankly, a complete headfuck; you could feel every bit of your body going *wooosh* as it tried to cope with the sudden climate change.

As for the water lily house; it's circular; and the acoustics are strange at the best of times. Combine that with an auditory system that was having fun, and, well, it bore a striking similarity to Little Fishes from Eno's 'Another Green World'.

A warning on the Aquarium under the Palm House: spiky fish are inherently funny in a very deep and meaningless way.

cheers,

Gideon.

I have *very* good memories of acid.

Acid, contact lenses and my first serious girlfriend all aided me in the transition from insecure and screwed-up teenage figure of fun at school ([livejournal.com profile] nicolai might remember this) into a reasonably happy and functional twentysomething.

"Drugs are bad, drugs are evil; well, I had some killer times on drugs" (to quote Bill).

Mind you, the photo still exists somewhere of me, sometime in October 1994, wearing a tiedye top and with past-the-shoulder hair, engaged in earnest protest against bad stuff (http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/Senate/7672/hyde.html#Q1994) and generally heavy shit (http://www.greenleft.org.au/back/1994/164/164p18b.htm).

(In fact, examine this picture (http://tash.gn.apc.org/0353_20slide.jpg) carefully. See the tallish person wearing a tiedye in the second row - in more-or-less the exact centre of the picture, above the P in 'STOP', holding a 'Protest, Picket, Party' poster?

Guilty as charged, yerhonner. New Statesman and Society (http://www.newstatesman.com/) had a better shot of me, though. I keep it and threaten herself with it whenever she says she likes my hair long. )

cheers,

Gideon.

I never touch drugs. But if I did, my favourite would be speed. Oh how I would love speed. Oh oh oh how intense my love affair with the white lady Amphetamina would be. Aaaaaah the rapture, the ppalpitations, the shivering ecstacy we w0ould explore together. How sharp her icy claws entangled in my synapses as we soared and plunged. If only I did drugs. If only.
