This afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] arkady and I went out to Xenu's Secret Lair to meet up with Andreas Heldal-Lund of Operation Clambake, who was over from Norway, over pintage. Of course, I brought the CAMERA and got a shot of him for the Wikipedia article. We have some fun lined up, not the least of which is the simple yet devastating act of writing in a neutral and factual manner about them. Which has led to such widely-referenced works of popular entertainment as Xenu and Space opera in Scientology doctrine.

We came back and gothed up for B-Movie: Scream of the Wolf. Despite having cooled down a bit outside, it was its proper saunalike August self and I sweated like a piglet. I must get a mesh top that's sleeveless. Howdy to the millions. I got one zillion shots on the CAMERA, which was widely admired for its stealth looks. [livejournal.com profile] flickgc is engaged and ridiculously smug about the Shiny Thing on her fourth finger. [livejournal.com profile] minigoth was over from Sweden with her ridiculously pretty boyfriend. [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres is back from Math Camp and seems to have become an Insane Mathematician. [livejournal.com profile] cookwitch was ridiculously pretty. [livejournal.com profile] cyberpunkgrrl is now fitting clothes she last fit ten years ago and is as pleased with suddenly having a body as I am. We had one drink and left a bit after midnight because we was proper shagged — I was wishing at times that I'd thought to bring some freeze-dried instant conversation to sprinkle as needed. Blame Norway! My darlings have both said I am getting the shots up before next B-Movie.

Tomorrow was pre-booked for a hangover (rather than, e.g., housework), but I probably won't have one. Damn.

Update: B-Movie pics here.

We are doomed. Having gadgeted the house up and become net exporters of gadgetry ... this morning we received Return of the King collector's edition (with the Minas Tirith you can't get out of the box) and Monty Python: The Movies. [livejournal.com profile] redcountess is watching The West Wing. We have also preordered the new edition of the complete Buffy seasons one to seven. We are going to turn into [livejournal.com profile] marnameow and [livejournal.com profile] sbp. Kitties and all.

I may have foolishly muttered something about having nearly finished gadgeting up. There is a computer store in Walthamstow that has IBM 18" flat panels (1280×1024, equivalent to a 21" CRT) with two DVI inputs (and a VGA adapter cable) for £85. I forget the name, but it's on Hoe Street just down from the corner with Forest Road (just near the Bell). [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine just swung by there in the Minebringer and got two for himself, one for [livejournal.com profile] wechsler and one for me.

They're ex-J.P. Morgan. Mine's a bit beat-up (there's light patches on the screen, probably from someone picking it up with their fingers on it), but will do just fine for my desktop. If you could do with a flat panel, they're well worth a spin. All I need now is a video card that will do 1280×1024 ... it's currently displaying to a 1024×768 bit in the middle of the screen!

So my 21" Sun monitor is now looking for a good home. First to come and get it, it's yours. It weighs 35kg, so you're going to need a car or cab.

We are now a CRT-free household, on our computers at least. Liz is looking to get a TV adapter for her laptop, so we might free ourselves of that one too ...

Update: The Sun 21" CRT does have the VGA adapter as well as the 13W3 Sun connector, so will fit any PC, any Sun and most Macs!
