  • Dave Goodman, the Sex Pistols' live sound man, has written a book on them. It's really good and you should read it.

Ikea strikes again! We got the Journalist shelves but didn't get the crossbraces for the back of them; it looks like they fell off the trolley somewhere between the warehouse and the checkout. [livejournal.com profile] _nicolai_ has one spare set, now we need one more. I don't have a desk either, because the metal frame for the bottom of the desktop is the wrong one — we grabbed the one for table extensions, not for desks. So that will actually have to be returned to Fucking Lakeside and exchanged for the right one. ARGH.

([livejournal.com profile] _nicolai_, you wouldn't be heading to Thurrock in the foreseeable future? ...)

I am off work today. I slept through the alarm and woke up at 9am, feeling like I hadn't breathed properly all night; [livejournal.com profile] redcountess was kept awake by my snoring. Combining this with the odd dizzy spells I've been having lately (and feeling somewhat lightheaded in general), I'm off to the doctor oh bugger, no I'm not, today is their half day. Fuck. Tomorrow I'm off to the doctor.

have you tried those sinus strips you stick to your nose? Some people find they help them breathe more easily in their sleep, and also cut down on snoring.

I've never met a person that those worked for :( t only snores loudly when he is congrested, so you'd think they'd be perfect for that (opening the nasal passages more so air can flow through better) but still nothing. And forget it if the snoring is actually from the throat, like my dad and best friend.

So glad you are going to get it checked out ASAP, David. If it's apnea it does need dealing with. Which my stupid father won't do so one day he's gonna die in his sleep, I just know it :(

Yeah it took me 2.5 years to get a referral to the HMS clinic. Who took me within 15 weeks once the referral was bloody written.

Look how long it took me to get a referral to a general rheumatology clinic that confirmed it was Fibro on the virst visit!

And I'm worried about him as my ex husband had sleep apnoea and had to go on one of those machines (but he was diagnosed years after we split up), then died from organ failure after an asthma attack

I read in The Metro this morning that Ikea plan to sell "cheap" flat pack housing, which will be ideal for first time buyers. I understand they have a company who will erect the thing for you (so no stressing about Slot A not fitting into Slot B) - once it's up then you can fill it with nice fixtures and fittings from your local Ikea store.

Great idea if you've got the land and planning permission!

Apparently the finance company arrange the land purchase - I imagine they buy sites already earmarked for housing development. You wouldn't be able to just put up a flat-pack house in your back garden!

My thoughts entirely - hence my comment regarding planning permission.

I could see it work here in .nl... Build it without permission. The council WILL come down on you, but they have to go through the courts to get you to remove it (which is about all they can do, not much by way of fines, at least not something significant compared to the price of the house). By the time it's gone through appeals, et cetera -- and you can do that on the cheap, the purpose being dragging your feet rather than winning -- you're 5 or 6 years further, and you may have had a chance to buy a piece of properly zoned land and move it by then.

prefab homes have *really* improved.
http://www.maplehomes.com/
admittedly, they're canadian. :)

i'd also like to point out the prices are $30-$50/ square foot. or around $70,000 for a 2300 square foot house. makes the UK gov'ts big fuss over a £60,000 house look pretty retarded to me. my parents' 3 bed architect designed house with full hardwood cost under $100,000 canadian.
