Being a muppet, I ran out of Cipramil on Sunday and won't get more until tomorrow. So I've been cold-turkeying, which means various whacky combinations of the side-effects and their opposites in reverse. My metabolism has gone back down and I'm staring into space and going "buh." I'm craving sugar and fat. (OH NOES!!) Two and a half hours to get ready for work this morning, mostly putting off moving. Going back on, I expect little to no sleep for a few days.

My laptop bag zip finally died on Friday after eight years' abuse, so I'm borrowing another from [livejournal.com profile] arkady. Everything fits but it weighs a ton and the Dell badges all over say "STEAL ME." Now seeking a replacement that is not only light but looks suitably crappy. Suggestions?

Dinner then Dev with Arkady on Sunday. Dinner is not quite compatible with corsetry. Her new doll Taliesin got lots of attention. The heating was out at her place so we had a lovely night at 1°C. Though it reached 2° by 7:30am. She didn't get it working last night either, so came over to stay with us. We did have to change the sheets and Febreze and flip the mattress because of a kitten pee puddle. (MITTENS. PIE.) This morning I cruelly turned them out after breakfast to get rained on and shall be doing so after every meal henceforth, no matter if it's hailing golfballs with three inches of ice on the ground.

We have a USB 2.0 card and more memory for [livejournal.com profile] redcountess' computer. Oddly, 192MB seems to have been enough for it to compile ports completely CPU-bound, hardly touching the swap. But 640MB will still be nice for running KDE or (especially) GNOME.

If you're craving sugar and fat, eat nuts (almonds, peanuts, cashews) - they have a nice dose of 'good' fats and should stifle the carb cravings too.

what were you doing in mordor? haven't been there for a while - is it the one that creates an unholy triumvirate between the tube station the tax office and the generic munchies shop?

There's a Muji in London. They do a laptop bag that works over the shoulder, as a backpack, or suitcase-style, and that's also expandable. I've had mine for 4 years and it's still intact. It's completely generic with no labels whatsoever. Tis good.

oh look, it's on the website

It's a pity they don't have stores in Toronto, I'd be all over them like a rash.

Must be a dud one then because I use mine on a daily basis for work and have no quibbles about it at all.

Dani's laptop bag came from Muji. Perfect for smaller laptops such as Vila and your Tart, but a little too small for Servalan and way too small for my work laptop the 17" PowerBook.

i think you might want to consider that the kittens might have a urinary tract infection or something. i've *never* known kittens to take this long to house train.

REI sells aa assortment of laptop bags in their Luggage and Travel section. They don't have computerish brand names all over them.

I wonder if a luggage repair shop or a mountain shop could simply replace the zipper on the old bag? that would be the Green thing to do anyway, rather than throwing the entire bag out and buying a replacement.

Crumpler! (http://www.crumpler.co.uk/2.0/site.html).

Seriously, I cannot recommed these bags enough - they are so well padded you can put them through anything plus they have room for all your bits as well...

Oh, plus the added bonus is they don't look like laptop bags, making less "theif attractive"

If you want a handy general purpose bag, I have this one from Eagle Creek (http://www.rohan.co.uk/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=01199_____&CurrentCategory=Home|Accessories|AccessoriesTravelBags). It basically does what it says; carries laptops, books, lunches, bits and pieces, actually will carry an SLR and a laptop if expanded, and actually is half decent as backpack as well as working fine as a courier bag. Also smart enough for business, and goes well with a black leather jacket.

Aghagh SSRI withdrawl syndrome. At least this one's not quite so bad as venlafaxine for that. Lots of lying down.

And FRENCH FRIES, as and when you can stand up. I swear to god it helps for no logical reason.

I've got an unbadged version of http://www.misco.co.uk/productinformation/~69031~WW~/Targus%20Notebook%20Backpac.htm that's been quite suitable for even heavily-loaded and long-duration travel. (It's gone to two Convergences and to the Carribean, as well as over a year of casual use, and been comfortable and gentle on the hardware.)

One thing I found really useful for training young Trinity was a cat repellent spray that you can buy at pet shops. You spray the areas you want the kittens to avoid (in my case it was the computer cords she was chewing through) and they totally stay away from those areas. Totally helps when she acts out by peeing in unsociable areas even now!

Hmph. Borrow a Vax? Once you've done that, it might be an idea to get a waterproof mattress protector, for future spills.
