[livejournal.com profile] redcountess and [livejournal.com profile] arkady are the best loved ones I could have. My Christmas conspiracy present finally arrived and I opened it today:

Both of them thought of it independently, and just as well because I had too. It presents as a plain USB audio device (the CD has nothing but a copy of Audacity and a manual for using it with Audacity), so should Just Work on any computer whatsoever with USB.

I'm going to have some fun, I think. Probably should lay out for a few large media-bucket hard drives ...

Coolness. [livejournal.com profile] diskerror and I have plans to hook his and/or my turntables to his Mbox and rip our own vinyl collections. This assumes that we ever get to where we can set up the stereo again, of course ;)

Please keep us informed about how it turns out - or maybe I'll come over with some vinyl.

I have a cheap Projekt A turntable - their basic model, and a brand new cartridge. (You may remember me talking about it) but I dont know whether I need to buy a whole new deck :-(

One can also purchase a 78 stylus for it separately - there's some fantastic stuff out there on old 78s too!

Cool! Any chance of a report on how good it is once you've had it a while? Mother-in-law got an (I think) different model, so it'll be interesting to compare experiences of people I trust.

Yes, I'm thinking of one too. :-)

Can't make any promises on that score....

Did you get the stair carpet up, BTW? I'm very curious as to the state of that suspect stair tread.

The Girl got me one of those too. I've been listening to all my old punk/post-punk vinyl this week, and recording it to my pc. Fab piece of gear. Audacity is really easy to use too.

Ook. Ook! OOK!

Er, how long, in hours days or man-years, will it take to capture all your vinyl?

So we're talking half a man-year... Unless there's an error in your estimates for packaging, record sleeves, etc.
