Things have definitely started, but they're taking ages. Three midwives showed up at 1am; [livejournal.com profile] arkady's at 1cm dilation right now with contractions lasting twenty seconds, so we're going to try to get some sleep and we'll call when they're getting over about forty seconds.

Arkady is transitioning too? That must get very confusing..

Transition = an especially painful stage of labor, too, actually. :)

Ah!

I was reading on Wikipedia about the changes that take place to a woman's cervix during their first labour and it does sound very painful..

(I know this isn't arkady's first..)

Freda could still be an election night baby as many places are counting during Friday (due to double checking postal votes) with results due in Friday afternoon.

wow, you must be having a home birth in some different part of Walthamstow. I got two midwives about thirty minutes before the baby was born... bit late but you might be interested in Walthamstow home birth report here (http://www.kittywompus.com/family/jonathan/report/index.htm).

Oh, we're well aware of the shortcomings of midwifery/obstetrics in this borough - have a look at [livejournal.com profile] arkadianchilde for the backstory!

It's my third child, and I have a past history of labours going fast so we basically called them early - when contractions were regular enough to actually have a pattern. We're a 5-minute ambulance-ride from Whipps cross, but I knew the midwives would have to come from home so we figured best to call sooner rather than later.

Things are progressing slowly but steadily; baby will likely be born probably sometime this evening at my guess.

I know what I've signed up for, and I'm ready and willing :-) In a couple of year's time I may have to introduce it to [livejournal.com profile] bohemiancoast's brood, in order to consolidate my duties. Or something :-)

But still. OMFGYAYFREDA. How's it all going there. Lots and lots of love to all three four of you.
