The mattress has arrived, at half past six this morning (which no doubt is "between 7am and 2pm" as promised). Except that it's not a 180cm x 200cm mattress. No, it's two 90cm x 200cm mattresses sold as a unit. Despite no word of this small detail being mentioned in the catalogue or visible on the showroom floor.
Now, I can return this (and probably make them eat the delivery charge if I try hard enough), and have no bed by Friday. Or I can put up with this fucking crap object. Fuck.
Update, 2:20pm: Just called to whine. They took all details (including that I want the delivery refunded) and said I will receive a call back from the store within 72 hours, whereupon I can argue further. I'd rather the lump of cash now, but this way will cause them slightly more pain, which is of course more educational.

If you put up with said crap object, you'll be cranky until you lob the damn thing out the window.
I'm thinking a few days of cranky is the better way to go.

I'm just appalled they would push something so manifestly crap.

Date: 2002-10-16 11:26 pm (UTC)if you decide not to raise a stink, a mattress pad will cover the gap nicely and prolong the life of your brand new crap mattress. a bit of nonsticky carpet tack between boxspring and mattress will keep them from sliding out of place.
were i you, though. i would start being an obnoxious american asap.

Date: 2002-10-17 12:53 am (UTC)I reckon you should return it and spend today on the internet/phone looking for someone who'll be able to deliver this evening. I'm not sure where you live, but if you look for an independant shop close to your house they may well be able to deliver almost instantly if you stress that it is an issue.
Or go to Argos - buy one over the counter, and get a frined to pick it up for you. They're cheap there too..

IKEA suck
Date: 2002-10-17 04:48 am (UTC)Needless to say the catalogue doesn't explain it in quite those terms, the sheer bloody awkwardness of the whole bed-buying process is swamped with rave reviews about the fantastic quality of the product. I'm afraid if you want an Ikea bed you'll have to go along with their way of doing things.
