Fun with LMMS continues. No new tracks, but I'm coming up with some really quite horrible potential earworms. A hazard of LMMS is that the samples and presets sound really good, and it's very easy to come up with something that sounds beautiful but isn't of much substance; so I've been doing stuff in sine wave and TR-606, which pretty much forces me to put them into non-shitty voices afterwards. Also, be sure to mix on both on headphones and awful netbook speakers.
I'm playing lots of bleepy rubbish in close study mode, occasionally wowed by the orchestration that goes into some apparently simple stuff, but mostly slightly appalled at what musicians get away with. I got the same thing when I started learning bass and realised how many rock'n'roll clichés are artifacts of trapping oneself in EADBGE tuning. Sonic Youth were onto something, y'know. As was Keith Richards. Any musician who doesn't twiddle every knob to find out what it does is failing to do it right.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, make abysmal attempts. Those who can't even attempt - become politicians or teach in schools. OK, some politicians and teachers have 'half' a clue...
