I tried upgrading my work machine to Ubuntu 12.04 this week. A fresh-off-the-CD Kubuntu took two to five seconds to respond to each mouse click. XFCE, of course, actually works and I can get shit done. KDE has gone batshit with much the same effects as GNOME's previous descent.
