well, the sad/rabid puppies blew their dicks off. so let's float a totally different proposal to achieve much the same result: come on down, jay maynard! he proposes a “web of trust” that would start with oooh people like himself and might even extend as far as unpatriotic poltroons like john scalzi and david gerrold.

the comments on this are amazing. ctrl-f for “scalzi” or “sjw” for examples, or just any of jay’s explanations of his great idea.

It's "harsh" mostly if you bother with the fine distinction between sad and rabid. Jay is completely sincere, and if he can get this beyond idea stage then hey, good luck. But every individual aspect of it remains a terrible idea at best.

It is a pretty fine distinction (but I'm willing to grant they're not all Beale and they don't all think dragging in the 'gaters was the best idea ever)... but honestly, I only care that the implementation of the honestly-not-the-Puppy-Award is bad if it's so bad it puts off the Puppies.

And I do have to admit to having a bit more respect for Jay as (AFAIK) the only Puppy to seriously try to organise their own award instead of crapping on the Hugos.
